Counselling for ADHD and Autism in Canterbury
Neurodiversity-Affirming Counselling
I have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent adults, including those with ADHD and autism.
Many people seek counselling after years of feeling different, misunderstood or overwhelmed by the expectations placed upon them. Therapy can provide a space to explore your experiences without judgement, develop self-understanding, and begin to build a life that works with your natural way of being rather than against it.
My practice is neuro-affirming, which means I don't see ADHD or autism as something that needs to be fixed. Counselling offers a space to better understand yourself, make sense of your experiences, and develop greater self-acceptance.
Support with Neuro-divergence
Many neurodivergent adults seek counselling because they are struggling with:
• Anxiety and stress
• Emotional overwhelm
• Low self-esteem
• Relationship difficulties
• Burnout and exhaustion
• Identity and self-acceptance
• Feeling misunderstood or different
• Challenges at work or during life transitions
I offer a warm, accepting and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about your experiences and feel understood.
ADHD Counselling
Living with ADHD can bring unique challenges, including difficulties with focus, organisation, emotional regulation, self-esteem and managing the demands of everyday life.
Many adults with ADHD experience frustration, anxiety or self-criticism after years of feeling that they should be coping better. Counselling can help you understand your patterns, recognise your strengths, develop self-compassion and find ways of working with your ADHD rather than constantly struggling against it.
Autism Counselling
Autistic adults often describe feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed by social expectations, or exhausted from trying to fit in. Many have spent years masking their natural ways of thinking, communicating or relating to others.
Counselling can provide a safe and accepting space to explore your experiences, understand your needs more clearly, improve self-acceptance and navigate challenges such as anxiety, relationships, work stress, overwhelm or burnout.
Every person's experience of ADHD or autism is unique, so I tailor my approach to meet your individual needs. If you would like to find out more, I offer a free introductory call where we can discuss what has brought you to counselling and whether working together feels right for you.
